STEPS TO SUCCESS AS AN INDEPENDENT ARTISTE

There’s a sort of natural, sequential progression to achieving success in music,
especially as an independent act. It goes something like this: having the talent, creating and performing worthwhile music with that
talent, getting the help you need to manage
your burgeoning career and market your music, having a plan to make real money from the music and, finally, reaching a level of mass appeal that allows you to make a decent living doing what you love. Some acts reach different points at different times. But no matter the order in which they occur, these are the most import steps for attaining real success as an independent artiste.
1-MUSIC
This comes first and foremost, above and
beyond all else. Otherwise, why are you doing
this? If you don’t love creating and
performing music, stop reading this and go
back to your day job right now!
2-MANAGEMENT
Okay, now that you’ve nailed the music part,
have been packing local clubs and are ready to
branch out regionally and nationally, you need
management and proper representation. You should, too. At first, you can probably only afford to a single manager who will wear many hats, but eventually you’ll need a management team to handle different areas, such as business/financial stuff, booking and promotion.
3-MARKETING
We get it. You’re a musician, not a business person. Concepts like marketing are anathema to you. It’s understandable, but that doesn’t mean you get a free pass. If you want to be successful, you must learn how to market you style of music. If you have a halfway decent management team , half the marketing battle is won, but they should be earning that standard 10 to 20 percent of your income that they charge. You’re the one at the top of the pyramid, so you need to learn about music marketing, even if you hire a marketing person. Make that ESPECIALLY if you hire a marketing person, so you know if they’re doing it right or not.
4-MONETIZATION
Let’s say you’re not at the stage where you need a manager yet. That’s fine, of course, but
you still need to manage your career yourself. That means monetizing your music through a series a revenue streams. Retailing and licensing are the most important aspects of making real money from your music beyond playing gigs. Get an online retailer for your discs and digital downloads, join a performing rights organization — ASCAP, BMI, SEASAC, and in Nigeria, COSON, and license your music for films, TV shows, video games. If you do it right, you’ll find revenue still streaming in from retail sales, licensing deals and royalty payments years after the original release date of a song.
5-MASS APPEAL
Reaching mass appeal doesn’t mean becoming as big as Lady Gaga, it means getting to a point where you have garnered enough of a loyal following to play the bigger venues in your city and region and pack them out over and over again, while still gaining new fans. Of course, we all want to be as big as Gaga and the like, but even if that never happens, it doesn’t mean you don’t have a successful career.
Once you've reached the mass appeal part of
this scenario, you’ll likely never have to worry
about going back to a day job again, because
music is not only your life, but now how you
make a living, and a pretty decent one at that.
Get going!

Who is TeeDot Unbeaten ?
My real name is Temitope Enisemo, Born in early 1980 in Abeokuta, Ogun State, I am a music producer, songwriter, mixing engr, and CEO of DreamOut Music Empire.

We know for sure that your birth name isn’t teeDot unbeaten, how do you come by the name?
TeeDot unBEATen is like TeeDot is my name and unBEATen is like my music surname. When I started my music journey I named myself Tee Dot One. Tee is from my name Tope and the Dot One is from my matric number when I was in Mapoly. Although on several occasions I have tried to change the name but the refuse to change. The unBEATen came as something I didn't planed for

How do you differentiate your music from others’ in the industry?
Hmm my production comes with unUsual approach whereby I allow the music to express itself, simplicity and clarity has always been the pillar of my productions. I allow artistes to express themselves and trust me beat will make you swing like a pendulum

Can you tell us some of the artistes you’ve produced for?
Whao! The lists is endless..and am proud to have worked with some of the best promising artistes in Nigeria. As an hip hop/RnB. I have worked with Adol, T code,,Base One, TM 9ja, Jyhbo, Bhigh LOVE, MegaChild, Xplain, O'Brain, GTAG, Gbenga Oke, DJ Genius,

So what are your hobbies, besides music, that is?
Aside from music, I love Reading Books, politics,

So we should expect tee dot to turn a politician in future?
Maybe or not..

Talking about your childhood, How was growing up like?
Growing for me, as the first born, it was really challenging. My mum and grand mother and step mum formed an integral part of my upbringing, Being the first born without nobody to look at as a model, I have to create my way. I learned through repeated process, although I didn't repeat a class, but I repeated a lots from life lessons

As a producer and a musical artiste, how do you manage them both?
Well, I am more of a producer than a performing artiste. The performing side of me usually comes out whenever am restless and I need to discharge my emotion. Managing the two comes easily for now..it is what I love doing..both are like bread and butter..

You are quite a talent! From where do you get your inspiration?
Inspiration? Anything..God is my source..but anything can inspires me to work..

So any latest project for now?
Presently Dreamout Music Empire is set to release one of its artiste O'Brain soon. Work is already in progress. More so, recently I released my first official single "I pray for you" which has received great support and media attention. The video of I pray for you in view is coming soon.

Talking about DreamOut Music Empire, can you tell us more about your brand?
Dreamout is an independent music production company and record label: aimed to inspire artistes to greatness.

As a gentle cute man, how do you handle your female fans?
Ah... (Laugh) well God is helping..more than enough love from my fans especially the female fans..they are so sweet and they are the biggest part of my career

So what should we expect from TeeDot UnBeaten?
Expect the unexpected

Where do you see yourself in the next five year?
To be among the most influential people not only in music
industry but also in Nigeria

How can we contact Tee Dot Unbeaten?
Hook on me on twitter @iamunbeaten, facebook: Tee Dot unBEATen,

Any word for your fans?
To my fans, I love you so much, and I'll never give you junk music..keep supporting Dreamout music..

Advice for the coming up artiste?
To artistes out there: greatness is not cheap, hard work is real, develop your talent, music knowledge is important. More importantly learn the business of music and also learn the business behind the music business that is where the guys operate from. Don't give wait till tomorrow
